AI Could Endanger Creators Livelihoods MrBeast Speaks Out

Top YouTube star MrBeast has expressed his worries about how artificial intelligence might affect the livelihoods of content creators.

Despite having experimented with AI himself, he took to social media on Monday to voice his concerns. He questioned how videos created by AI could impact the “millions of creators who rely on making content for their income.” He described the situation as “scary times.”

Because of his significant influence in the industry, his views carry a lot of weight. If someone as prominent as MrBeast is worried about AI being a potential threat to his business, it’s likely that smaller creators are feeling even more anxious about the situation.

His comments come after OpenAI launched Sora 2, an upgraded version of its audio and video creation tool. This new mobile app allows users to create AI-generated content, including videos of themselves, which can be shared in a format similar to TikTok. The app quickly gained popularity, reaching the top spot on the U.S. App Store shortly after its release.

YouTube has also jumped on the AI bandwagon, introducing various tools that let creators use AI for editing. These tools enable the generation of AI videos by animating still images or applying different styles to existing footage.

YouTube has integrated AI into its platform for features like creating clips from live streams and podcasts, and it even offers an AI chatbot to assist creators with their questions in YouTube Studio.

MrBeast has dabbled in AI as well, although he faced criticism earlier this summer when he released a tool that generated video thumbnails using AI.

After receiving backlash from fans and fellow creators, he removed the tool from his analytics platform, Viewstats, and promised to provide links to human artists instead.

His philanthropic organization has also made investments in AI projects at various times.

There is ongoing debate about whether the rise of AI video creation will enable everyone to become a creator or if high-quality videos will still require the unique creativity of humans to generate ideas and effectively prompt the AI tools.

Some people view AI-generated videos as low-quality content, often referred to as “slop,” and dislike seeing them in their feeds.

Even if AI technology becomes undetectable in the future, creators who use it without informing their audiences risk losing their fans’ trust and damaging their reputations.
