Meta Just Made A Shocking Deal With Midjourney

Meta has formed a partnership with Midjourney, an AI platform that creates images and videos from text descriptions.

Alexandr Wang, who is Meta’s Chief AI Officer, stated that the company is licensing Midjourney’s “aesthetic technology” for its upcoming products and models.

He emphasized that to provide the best products, Meta needs to adopt a comprehensive strategy, which includes attracting top talent, developing an ambitious computing plan, and collaborating with leading industry players.

Meta Just Made A Shocking Deal With Midjourney

Previously, Meta introduced its own AI tools, such as an image generator and a video editor. However, the technology from Midjourney could enhance Meta’s ability to compete with other companies, including OpenAI’s Sora and Google’s Veo.

In June, Midjourney launched its V7 model, which is designed to better understand and process text prompts compared to earlier versions.

Additionally, they released the V1 video model, allowing users to create short animated videos from the images generated.

Wang expressed admiration for Midjourney, praising their technical and artistic achievements and his excitement about the closer collaboration.

This partnership represents another step in Meta’s goal to establish a Superintelligence laboratory and become a significant player in the AI field.

Mark Zuckerberg has been actively hiring top talent from competitors, offering substantial salaries and bonuses to entice them to join Meta.

Wang himself became the Chief AI Officer after Meta made a significant investment of $14.8 billion in Scale AI, the company he co-founded.
