Midjourney, the popular AI image generation service and company, has transitioned from being primarily accessible through Discord and a limited “alpha” website, to now opening its website to any users, including those not previously signed up, with the introduction of free trial options.
According to Midjourney co-founder and CEO David Holz, new users will be able to generate around 25 images for free.
This initiative offers a chance for both novice and seasoned users to discover the platform’s features without an upfront financial obligation.
Midjourney, widely regarded as the premier AI text-to-image generation and editing tool, now faces growing competition from Elon Musk’s xAI and its Grok 2 chatbot, as well as the newly launched Ideogram 2 image generator.
It’s also mired in a legal dispute with artists who allege it has infringed their copyrights by utilizing their works for training purposes without authorization or remuneration.

How To Use Midjourney On Web For Free
For new users, the sign-up process is simple, allowing them to register using either a Google or Discord account.
This dual sign-up method aims to streamline the onboarding process, catering to a wider range of users, and making the platform more accessible.
Once signed in, users can create images in sets of 4 by typing text prompts and descriptions in the “What will you imagine?” text box.
Users can adjust settings by clicking the box with knobs on the right, which brings up a pop-over menu where they can control image aspect ratio, and use slider bars to adjust the degree of stylization, weirdness, and variety in the generated images.
The website features a left-side column that enables users to access various sections beyond the image creator and editor, such as an “Organize” tab for viewing their previously generated images in a photo-like roll, and a “Chat” tab for discussing image generations with other users.
How Existing Users Can Merge Accounts?
Users can now create images on the web, but Midjourney recommends that existing users sign in with their Discord accounts to retain the history of images they previously generated on Discord.
The platform also allows users to merge their Discord and Google accounts under the “account” tab, enabling them to sign in with either account in the future, offering greater flexibility and convenience.
Midjourney’s move to introduce web-based image creation and offer free trials is likely to attract a wide variety of users, from casual creators to professional artists, thereby expanding its user base and boosting engagement on the platform.
