Meta AI Launches Imagine Me AI Selfie Feature

Meta AI, Meta’s AI-powered assistant across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and the web, has expanded its language capabilities and can now generate stylized selfies.

Additionally, Meta AI users can now direct inquiries to Meta’s latest flagship AI model, Llama 3.1 405B, which the company claims is capable of handling more complex queries compared to the previous model supporting Meta AI.

The question remains whether these improvements will be sufficient to enhance the overall Meta AI experience, as it was initially received with disappointment by many reviewers.

Early versions of Meta AI struggled with tasks such as fact-checking, numerical information, and web searches, often failing to perform basic functions like searching for recipes and flight prices.

Llama 3.1 405B has the potential to make a difference. Meta claims that the new model excels in math and coding questions, making it suitable for assisting with math homework, explaining scientific concepts, and debugging code.

But there’s a drawback. Meta AI users must manually switch to Llama 3.1 405B to use it, and they are limited to a specific number of queries each week before Meta AI automatically switches to a less-capable model (Llama 3.1 70B).

Meta is currently categorizing the integration of Llama 3.1 405B as a “preview” for the time being.

In addition to Llama 3.1 405B, there is another new generative AI model in Meta AI that powers the selfie feature.

The Imagine Yourself model generates images using a person’s photo and a prompt such as “Imagine me surfing” or “Imagine me on a beach vacation.”

Currently, in beta, Imagine Yourself can be accessed in Meta AI by entering “Imagine me” followed by a non-NSFW request.

Meta has not disclosed the specific data used to train Imagine Yourself, but the company’s terms of use indicate that public posts and images on its platforms are considered fair game. This policy, along with the complicated opt-out process, has received criticism from some users.

New editing tools have been added to Imagine Yourself in Meta AI, allowing users to add, remove, change, or edit objects with prompts such as “Change the cat to a corgi.”

Meta AI will soon introduce an “Edit with AI” button for more fine-tuning options. Additionally, users will soon have new shortcuts for sharing Meta AI-generated images to feeds, stories, and comments across Meta apps.
