xAI, the new company of elon musk, has launched a website where they explained their mission and introduced their team. In addition, Elon Musk tweeted that their goal is to “understand reality,” although he didn’t provide any additional information or explanation.
According to the website, xAI wants to figure out how the universe really works. Elon Musk leads the team, and they have experts from other well-known AI companies like OpenAI, Google Research, Microsoft Research, and DeepMind (which is now part of Google).
Apart from Musk, the website also mentions other people who are part of the xAI team. These include Igor Babuschkin, Manuel Kroiss, Yuhuai (Tony) Wu, Christian Szegedy, Jimmy Ba, Toby Pohlen, Ross Nordeen, Kyle Kosic, Greg Yang, Guodong Zhang, and Zihang Dai.
The team also receives guidance from Dan Hendrycks, who is a researcher leading a nonprofit organization called the Center for AI Safety. Their organization focuses on minimizing risks related to AI that can affect society as a whole.
The xAI team will be holding a Twitter Spaces conversation on July 14th. During this event, listeners can join in, meet the team, and ask them questions. The website didn’t mention the exact time for the discussion.
According to xAI’s website, the company is independent of Musk’s overarching X Corp, but they will collaborate closely with X (Twitter), Tesla, and other companies. Musk recently implemented temporary restrictions on reading Twitter due to AI startups scraping data for large language models (LLMs).
In April, we got to know about xAI when documents showed that Musk established the company in Nevada. During that time, Musk was listed as the director, and Jared Birchall, who is in charge of Musk’s family office, was listed as the secretary.
We didn’t have much information about xAI back then, but there were reports indicating that Musk looked for funding from SpaceX and Tesla to kickstart the company.
