Microsoft’s AI-powered Designer app is officially launching today for iOS and Android users after being in preview for nearly a year.

The app allows users to utilize templates for creating custom images, stickers, greeting cards, invitations, and more. Additionally, Designer can use AI to edit and restyle images, as well as create image collages.

Originally accessible through the web or Microsoft Edge, the app is now available to anyone with a personal Microsoft account and is free for Windows, iOS, and Android. The mobile version of the app also includes the capability to create and edit images while on the go.

Microsoft Designer offers the standard text prompt for generating images, along with a wide array of templates for creating greeting cards, social media posts, icons, wallpapers, coloring book pages, and more. The app also features an avatar creator that is recommended for use on the mobile version.

In addition, Designer provides AI-powered image editing capabilities, enabling users to restyle existing images or add decorative AI-generated borders.

Users can also utilize the app to edit and remove backgrounds, eliminate people or objects from images, and incorporate text and branding into their visuals.

Microsoft Designer is currently offered as a standalone application, but it is also accessible through Copilot in Word and PowerPoint.

Subscribers to Copilot Pro have the ability to produce images and designs directly within these applications, and Microsoft is planning to introduce a new banner image generator for Word documents in the near future.

Today, Windows Insiders will gain access to Designer within the Photos app on Windows 11, offering features such as object erasing, background removal, auto-cropping, and filters directly within Photos.

Microsoft had previously been testing the ability to send images from Photos to Designer, but now these features are being integrated into Photos to streamline the user experience. Similar features will also be coming to Microsoft Edge in the near future.

Microsoft Designer is officially launching out of preview and will provide 15 free daily boosts for creating or editing AI-powered images and designs.

According to Sumit Chauhan, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Office product group, these boosts will be automatically utilized when creating or editing images or designs in the Designer app or when Designer is integrated into Microsoft apps.

Users also have the option to upgrade to a Copilot Pro subscription to receive 100 boosts per day.
