Senator Ted Cruz introduced a measure in the Senate, urging cryptocurrency payments in areas within the Capitol as a signal of Republicans insisting on regulations of digital assets.

The new rule would apply to those who oversee daily operations in the House of Representatives and Senate to encourage them to work with "persons who will use crypto currencies as the payment method for products" and food services.

The proposal identifies areas in the Capitol where digital payment systems could be used, such as in gift shops and vending machines.

In November of this year, Cruz pushed for adopting cryptocurrency like Bitcoin to be used as a means of payment in Capitol buildings in a similarly phrased document.

The changes were put forth in a so-called concurrent resolution, “generally used to make or amend rules that apply to both houses,” according to the Senate’s website.

While it doesn’t need the president’s signature to take effect, the measure would still need to be approved by both the House and Senate.
