Twitter has hidden negligent security practices, misled federal regulators about its safety, and failed to correctly estimate the number of bots on its platform,

According to testimony from the company's former head of security, the legendary hacker-turned-cybersecurity-expert Peiter "Mudge" Zatko.

The shocking allegations could have a considerable impact, including federal fines and possibly unravelling Tesla CEO Elon Musk's attempt to purchase Twitter.

It is believed that the FTC is currently looking into the complaint following sources referenced

in The Washington Post and could likely issue substantial fines on Twitter if Zatko's allegations are accurate.

Elon Musk  is justifying his decision with the claim that Twitter is not telling the truth about the number of bots and spam accounts on the platform.

"We have already served a subpoena to Mr Zatko," Alex Spiro, an attorney representing Musk, has said in a statement ",

and we discovered his departure as well as that of other key employees suspicious in light of the information we've uncovered."
