Australian authorities have discovered a radioactive capsule found in the great Outback after a nearly week-long search across a 1,400-km stretch of highway, an official of the emergency services confirmed.

The military examined the capsule, and it was shipped to a secure area within the town of Perth the following day.

The Minister of Emergency Services Stephen Dawson said in a news conference.

"When you consider the scope of the research area, locating this object was a monumental challenge, the search groups have quite literally found the needle in the haystack," Dawson said.

The radioactive capsule was a part of a gauge used to gauge the number of iron ore feeds from Rio Tinto's Gudai Darri mine located in The state's far-flung Kimberley region.

The ore was taken to a plant within the suburban areas of Perth, the city, which is a longer distance than Great Britain.
