According to an email to Quest users this week, the original Oculus Quest will no longer receive new feature updates and will lose access to existing social VR features.

Quest headset users will continue to be able to use all apps and the device, but they won't be able "create or join parties," according to the email.

The company also announced that Meta's Horizon Home features would be removed from the Internet on March 5.

Meta won't be "delivering new features to Quest 1" users anymore, but the company said it would continue to provide "critical bugs fixes and security patches up to 2024".

The announcement comes less than four years after the Quest's initial launch as Meta's (then Oculus') first wireless headset with full six-degree-of-freedom head- and hand-tracking.

The Quest's original version, priced at $400, was replaced by the Quest 2 for $300 in late 2020.
