This Thursday, there's another, but this time, it's Knockout City.

Game Director Jeremy Russo shared the news in a blog post that was published earlier in the day, stating that the servers of the game will be closed on the 6th of June.

After that, Knockout City "will cease to be available for play." At the very least, it will not be in its current format.

While a game's shutting indefinitely is a tragedy for those who are playing the game at the moment, however, it's also the reality of the business, especially for a game that was first launched featuring five million people.

If that day arrives, it's a devastating and disappointing twist to see the game will usually vanish completely, leaving nothing behind to be left behind but images and memories and no way for the next generation to know what it was about.

So the news that Knockout City will be getting a “private server” version on the PC is great, both for fans of the game as well as anyone interested in game preservation.

Russo says this will be “a standalone player-hosted version of the game”, which will be released shortly after the existing version’s shutdown in June.
