Reliance Industries released its annual report on Saturday. It revealed plans for Reliance Jio, the company's telco unit, regarding the 5G rollout in India.

According to the report, Jio has completed planning for 5G coverage in India's top 1,000 cities and identified 22 Indian cities that will be receiving a 5G network during the initial phase.

After the auction, Akash Ambani, the newly elected Jio Chairman, announced that Jio would celebrate the "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav" with a 5G rollout.

This hint at an impending launch of services in the country in August.

Reliance Jio was the highest spender at the 5G spectrum auction. Reliance Jio paid Rs 88.078 crore to purchase rights to 24,740MHz of 5G spectrum.

It now has access to spectrum in the 700MHz and 800MHz bands, as well as 1,800MHz, 1,800MHz and 3,300MHz frequencies.

Kiran Thomas, RIL President, stated in the last month's quarterly results call that the telco had chosen nine cities for its initial deployment.

These cities include Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Jamnagar, Hyderabad and Lucknow.

Jio's 5G services, on top of all this, will be built upon the company's own 5G stack.

Jio also has partnered with Oulu University in Finland to accelerate research and standardization in 6G.

This university is responsible for the world's first 6G research program.

According to industry experts, 5G data plans will cost 30 percent less than 4G.
