Hong Kong will ban CBD beginning on Wednesday, defining CBD as a "dangerous drug" and imposing harsh sanctions for its smuggling production, and possession, customs officials declared on Friday.

The majority of CBD advocates believe that CBD can be used to treat a variety of illnesses, including anxiety.

It's also said that unlike its more famous cousin, THC, which is legal in Hong Kong - CBD does not cause users to become high.

Cannabidiol, the product of the marijuana plant, was once legalized throughout Hong Kong, where bars and stores sold products that contained it.

However, Hong Kong authorities decided last year to ban the marijuana-derived substance, a move set to take effect soon.

Citizens were allowed three months starting in October. 27 to eliminate their CBD products in specially designed boxes around the city.
