Hackers Cloned Code Signing Certificates for Atom And GitHub Desktop

GitHub revealed on Monday that unidentified threat actors were able to steal encrypted certificates for signing code that is linked to certain versions of GitHub Desktop for Mac and Atom applications.

In the end, the company has taken the action of revocation of the certificates in the interest of safety.

These versions of GitHub Desktop for Mac have been deemed invalid: 3.0.2, 3.0.3, 3.0.4, 3.0.5, 3.0.6, 3.0.7, 3.0.8, 3.1.0, 3.1.1, and 3.1.2.

Versions 1.63.0, as well as 1.63.1 of Atom, are also scheduled to cease functioning on February 2nd, 2023.

It is expected that users should upgrade to an earlier version of Atom. GitHub Desktop for Windows is not affected.
