A flaw in a brand new central system that Meta developed to help users manage their logins on Facebook and Instagram let malicious hackers turn off the account's two-factor security through their phone numbers.

This allows users to link to their Meta accounts, like Facebook or Instagram.

If a victim's number is entered, the attacker can go to the central account centre and type in the numbers of the person who was victimized then.

Link the number to their Facebook account, then use brute force to enter the SMS two-factor code.

This was a crucial process since there was no limit to the number of times someone could try.

Once the attacker got the code right, the victim’s phone number became linked to the attacker’s Facebook account.
