Google has made important strides in making HTTP websites less attractive to visit.

Chrome 94 has a full-page warning to discourage you from visiting insecure websites.

This is in addition to the warning label "not secure" in the address bar when you open non-HTTPS websites.

Chrome Gerrit has spotted new code that indicates Google is working on adding a security feature that blocks "insecure" HTTP site downloads.

This new feature builds on the already existing toggle, automatically switching you to HTTPS.

The security option is currently in development. However, it will be available to more testers once Chrome 111 launches in March.

Chrome already blocks insecure downloads. Unencrypted files and online forms are blocked by Chrome, even if they come from an HTTPS site.

This happens when you click on an HTTPS link and are rerouted toward an insecure HTTP server.

Chrome will now block all downloads from non-HTTPS sources with the new feature.
