FCC Head: India Set An Example By Banning TikTok

FCC Commissioner stated that India had set an "incredibly important precedent" by banning TikTok in India.

He also predicted a similar fate for Bytedance, the giant Chinese app in the U.S.

Brendan Carr, the Commissioner of the FCC, stated that TikTok is "a sophisticated surveillance tool"

And that banning the app would be a "natural next move in our efforts to secure the communication network."

According to the FCC's senior Republican, the concern is that China might use TikTok data,

Which was non-public, for "blackmailing, espionage, foreign influences campaigns, and surveillance."

He stated that India should be widely followed to eliminate other harmful apps.

Carr's comments further highlight the growing concern among U.S. lawmakers and states about TikTok.

The app has more than 100 million users across the country.

Carr stated that India's strong leadership was helpful and informative as we debated banning TikTok USA.
