Facebook on Monday pleaded with a London court to stop a lawsuit worth upwards of $3B in connection with allegations that the company abused its power to profit from the personal information of its users.

Meta Platforms Inc, the parent company of the Facebook group, is currently facing an extensive lawsuit brought on behalf of more than 45 million Facebook users in Britain.

The legal academic Liza Lovdahl Gormsen, who is the plaintiff in the case has stated that Facebook users weren't properly paid for the personal information they were required to submit for the use of the platform.

The lawyers of her clients suggested that users receive compensation for the value they could have earned if Facebook wasn't in an undisputed position on the market for social media.

But Meta said the lawsuit was “entirely without merit” and should not be allowed to proceed.

Its lawyers said the claimed losses ignore the “economic value” Facebook provides.
