Facebook To Shut Down Its Standalone Gaming App In 7 Weeks

Facebook's Gaming application, available for iOS and Android, is closing down just over two years after its launch.

In a note sent out an email to its users, Facebook declares that its gaming app will not be available or be available for download from October 28th, 2022.

Even though the game app is shut down, the web-based version of Facebook's gaming streaming platform will stay operational.

In 2019, YouTube removed its Gaming application, claiming it created "confusion" for users, and integrated it into the YouTube app.

Facebook hasn't provided an explanation for why it shut the application, and the company did not immediately respond to reporters request for comments.

"We would like to express our sincere thanks to each of you for what you've contributed to creating an active community for gamers and other fans since the app's launch," Facebook says.
