The Indian government banned the uber-popular mobile game PUBG Mobile in 2020 due to political tensions between India and China.

Krafton, the developer of the game, took more than a year to create Battleground Mobile India (BGMI), an India-exclusive alternative.

BGMI is now less than a year old and has more than 100 million registered users. You can find all the details below.

Krafton released BGMI for Android and iOS on July 2, 2021, after much anticipation.

Krafton has announced, just ahead of tomorrow's first birthday, that it has passed the 100 million mark in total registered users.

This is a significant achievement as it highlights the huge popularity of BGMI among Indian mobile gamers.

It also shows how fierce competition exists between other major titles such as Apex Legends Mobile, Garena Fire, Garena Mobile Fire, Call of Duty Mobile and Apex Legends Mobile.

"BGMI's inaugural year was a huge success, with millions of people joining the game to play it. In a statement, Krafton CEO Changhan Kim said they had organized major tournaments and Indian-themed collaborations.

They also celebrated India-centric events in the community to curate gameplay for Indian players.

Krafton has spent much money over the last year to bring various India-centric events and activities to BGMI.

Krafton claims it spent more than $100 million in India to help improve the esports industry and the local video gaming community.

Indian mobile gamers were interested in Power Play, an IPL-inspired event, and the Holi Dhamaka events. This helped to expand the game's user base.

Krafton plans to invest more in organizing 4 professional and semi-professional BGMI-focused tournaments.

These tournaments will offer cash prizes of up to Rs 6 crores for the winners.

In addition, they will provide an opportunity for Indian mobile gamers to compete in a fast-paced battle royale.
