Alert: These Malicious Browser Extensions Targeted Over A Million Users

Kaspersky claims that more than 1.31 million people tried to install a malicious browser extension in the first half of 2022.

Furthermore, Kaspersky stated that malicious browser extensions were used to attack more than 4.3million unique users between January 2020 and June 2022. 

According to Kaspersky's Telemetry Data, this category includes 1,311,557 users in the first half of 2022.

This number peaked at 3,660,236, with 1,823,263 unique users following in 2021. WebSearch is the most common threat. 

It masquerades itself as PDF viewers or other utilities. Another threat is AddScript, which hides its malicious functionality behind video downloaders.

Adware was reported to have been encountered by more than one million users in H1 2022 alone. 

WebSearch and AddScript were targeted at 876,924 users and 156,698, respectively. 

FB Stealer caused three thousand seventy-seven infections. Malware imitates the standard-looking Chrome extension Google Translate.
