Airtel stated that 5G coverage would be available in India starting this month.

To help with rollout and infrastructure, the carrier has partnered up with Ericsson and Nokia.

The company spent Rs 431 trillion ($5.45 billion) to acquire spectrum in sub-6GHz 5G's 900Mhz, 1,800MHz and 2,100Mhz bands and the 26GHz band for millimetre waves.

Most of the spectrum it owns is in the 3300MHz and 26GHz bands. The spectrum totalled 19.8GHz, and the company has the right to use it for the next 20 years.

Although 5G rollouts will be in place in key cities, the company has not yet published a timeline.

For a long time, 5G-capable smartphones have been available in the country. Now, their customers will be able to enjoy next-generation connectivity.

Rivals Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea, and Vodafone Idea purchased 5G spectrum for $11.2 billion each for 24.7GHz (and $2.4 billion respectively for 6.2GHz) respectively.

In addition, a small amount of spectrum was also purchased by the Adani Group. They are currently working on launching their next-generation networks.
