According to reports, a key division of Elon Musk’s Twitter has been dissolved just weeks after San Francisco’s tech company had already seen its staff cut (and days before Christmas). On Friday night, Twitter’s infrastructure division engineers were informed via email that they would be laid off.
It is still being determined how many layoffs were made and what benefits affected workers will receive.
The Information first reported the news about the layoffs. There has been chaos over the past weeks of Elon Musk’s reign.
Twitter suspended high-profile journalists for criticizing Musk’s decision. The Twitter Spaces feature was temporarily disabled shortly after Musk entered a Twitter Space hosted by Katie Notopoulos, the BuzzFeed reporter.
Accounts that shared links to Mastodon, Instagram, and other social media platforms were also removed from the site.
The Information estimates that 75% of Twitter’s employees have been laid off since Musk’s earlier acquisition. In San Francisco, conference rooms were converted into dormitories. Twitter does not have a public relations department.
